April 19, 2012

FULLERTON, CA. – (April 19, 2012) – Yokohama Tire Corporation (YTC) was presented with top honors as a company changing the green industry at the annual OC METRO Green Team awards on April 18 in Costa Mesa, California. YTC was one of 25 organizations recognized for making incredible strides to create a more eco-friendly Orange County and reduce the carbon footprint globally.

“Being selected among the top green companies is truly gratifying for Yokohama,” said Dan King, Yokohama senior vice president of sales and marketing. “We make environmental preservation a way of life for us, and we are proud to have received the honor from our community.”

OC METRO magazine executive editor, Steve Churm, noted, “It’s impossible to imagine this county associated with a color other than orange. Yet with each passing season, green becomes a larger part of the collective thinking of those who work and live in Orange County.” Churm added, “[Going green] is neither foreign nor forced. We do it at home and at work because it makes sense for our communities, our health and our bottom line.”

In an article on the Green Team, OC METRO highlighted Yokohama’s eco efforts, including:

-- Planting an additional 300 tree seedlings at its Fullerton headquarters in December as part of the YTC global Forever Forest initiative. YTC is now growing more than 800 trees in Fullerton, and through its parent company in Japan, The Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd., aims to plant approximately 500,000 trees worldwide by 2017.

-- Pioneering the development of a renewable resource – orange oil – for use in tires. YTC’s orange oil technology is utilized in race car tires (the ADVAN® ENV-R2™), as well as in passenger car tires (the new AVID Ascend®).
